Sorghum Checkoff

Center for Agricultural Technology Transfer

In 2006 Texas Tech Sorghum Research Initiative (TTSRI) began with funding from USDA CSREES and a parnership between Kansas State University, Texas A&M University and Texas Tech University. This project was part of the Great Plains Sorghum Initiative. In 2009 this partnership between Texas Tech University and the United Sorghum Checkoff Program (USCP) began.

The efforts of the TTSRI led to the creation of a Web portal equipped with a search engine to retrieve articles provided by the National Sorghum Producers relating to sorghum genetics, breeding, nutrition, diet, production, health for human consumption, disease resistance, water conservation, history, background, bio-energy and economic issues relating to sorghum. The creation of the Web portal is designed to aid the facilitation of communication between farmers, scientists, extension professionals, staff and the general public.

The success of TTSRI and led to a partnership between Texas Tech and the USCP through a 2009 proposal. The database has been moved to a larger server to allow the number of articles to increase.
